What We Do

At UJA, our mission guides everything we do: caring for Jews everywhere and New Yorkers of all backgrounds, responding to crises close to home and far away, and shaping our Jewish future.

In practice, that means reaching millions of people each year in New York City and the surrounding region, Israel, and communities around the world by meeting urgent needs, protecting Jewish life, and investing in long-term solutions that help individuals and communities thrive.

Our Focus

UJA is a lifeline for people facing isolation, hardship, or moments of crisis —  from families struggling with poverty to older adults, Holocaust survivors, people with disabilities, and those facing mental health and well-being challenges. Through programs that address essential needs and economic security, we help individuals and families regain stability and move forward with dignity.

We’re committed to ensuring safe, thriving Jewish communities around the world, both in crisis and beyond. Whether standing up to antisemitism, responding to disasters, or supporting Israel during times of war, we mobilize quickly when communities face overwhelming challenges.

We strengthen Jewish life in New York City and beyond by supporting many paths to connection — from Jewish education and Jewish summer camps to programs that build Jewish community and identity across generations. Through the Community Security Initiative, we help ensure New York’s Jewish community is a shared space where people feel safe, valued, and included.
