ADVOCATING FOR
A BETTER WORLD

More voices mean more power to drive real change for Jewish advocacy in New York. The time is now — antisemitism continues to surge, and growing needs are putting real pressure on our communities.

At UJA, we take on issues that affect us all by elevating the voices of our neighbors, leaders, and partners in City Hall, Albany, and Washington, D.C. Because when the right policies are in place, Jewish life is safe and joyful, communities are strong and thriving, and people in need can access the support they rely on.

That’s how UJA turns our voices into action.

UJA’S ADVOCACY ACROSS NEW YORK

Holocaust Survivors

UJA’s advocacy at the state and city level has helped secure over $50 million in funding since 2015 to support social services for Holocaust survivors.

Learn more about how UJA cares for survivors through our Community Initiative for Holocaust Survivors.

Security Funding

We advocate for government funding that helps protect Jewish institutions like JCCs, synagogues, day schools, day care centers, and camps. In Albany, we push to increase funding for the Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes program. At the federal level, we mobilize our community to protect and grow funding through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program — to date, helping secure $305 million.

Antisemitism & Community Protection

We fight for policies that strengthen how antisemitism is combated and addressed — from improving responses to incidents to ensuring safer environments on college campuses. At the same time, through our Community Security Initiative (CSI), we help institutions act on those policies, providing threat monitoring, training, and coordination with law enforcement.

Food Insecurity

UJA advocates for increased government funding and robust nutrition programs to address food insecurity among vulnerable populations, including families, older adults, and students.

Mental Health

We make mental health care more accessible by pushing for increased government funding and reimbursement for services; supporting policies that expand access for children, teens, older adults, and people with disabilities; and working to integrate mental health into schools, community settings, and social services.

Childcare & Early Childhood Education

UJA champions more affordable, accessible, and sustainable childcare and early childhood education for both families and providers. We push for increased government funding, expanded subsidies, and stronger support for educators and programs, working with government partners to stabilize systems, improve quality, and close gaps in access.

Climate Justice

We support greater awareness and advocacy for green policies that work toward a more sustainable and healthy environment through  Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Justice and Adamah's JYCM (Jewish Youth Climate Movement).

Just Pay for Nonprofit Workers

We back the #JustPay Campaign, which advocates for livable wages for New York and NYC nonprofit human services workers. Because it’s not enough to talk about how essential these workers are — they deserve just pay.

Criminal Justice Reform

We launched the Jewish Coalition for Justice Reform  to create a dialogue among NYC communities about how we can best address criminal reform in our neighborhoods.

Together, We Served

For MLK Day 2026, we built bridges by organizing thousands of diverse volunteers to give back and serve across New York. Together, we laid the foundation for a better, more equitable future.
