Peter served as chief communications and sustainability officer at DICK’S Sporting Goods from 2020-2023. In this role, he was responsible for all internal and external communications and public affairs, including media relations; government affairs; headquarters, field, and executive communications; consumer communications; crisis communications; financial communications; and corporate event management.

He also developed and oversaw all elements of the company’s enterprise sustainability strategy. Peter worked closely with other members of the leadership team and the company’s board to ensure sustainability was integrated into critical areas of the business and that the company stayed on track to meet its goals.

He also served on the board of the DICK’S Foundation.

Prior to DICK’S, he was a senior partner at FGS Global, a firm specializing in corporate reputation, crisis management, and capital markets.

Throughout his career, Peter has held global leadership roles at PepsiCo, AOL, the NBA, Kraft Foods, and Edelman. He was on the executive team at the NBA that helped develop the business plan for the launch of the WNBA. Peter began his career as a reporter and editor with The Washington Post.

He currently consults for several companies in the business of marketing and media and serves on three nonprofit boards: UJA’s Sports for Youth, Sandy Hook Promise, and The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism at the University of Maryland. He is also on the executive council for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business’s efforts focused on climate change.

For the last 27 years, Peter has been an adjunct professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business — teaching Stern’s only MBA course on the business of sports. More recently, he has taught undergraduate classes at Stern and guest-lectured at several leading universities on topics including the media business, how companies drive sustainability, and the overall business of sports.

Peter has a B.A. from Duke University and lives in Manhattan with his wife, Ann; their daughter, Lucy; and their dog, Bodhi.
