From Our CEO
It Takes a Community
July 17th, 2015

Today’s message couldn’t be simpler — thank you.

Because of you, we raised a total of $207.8 million this year.

Our 2015 campaign closed June 30, having generated: $150.8 million for the annual campaign, $33.9 million in planned giving and endowments, and $23.1 million in capital gifts & special initiatives — including $8.9 million raised for the Israel Emergency Fund, which supported the needs of Israelis both during and in the aftermath of last summer’s war.

These are remarkable results, but far more remarkable is what these results enable.

Consider that, at this very moment, there are children learning about their Jewish heritage for the first time at summer camps in Brooklyn and in Moscow; elderly people enjoying a nourishing meal and a broad array of quality programs at Jewish community centers across New York; displaced Jews being housed, fed, and comforted in war-torn Ukraine; young adults with special needs receiving employment guidance services; and American college students witnessing the beauty of Shabbat in Jerusalem on an Israel experience program.

We — as a community — make each of these life-changing moments a reality.

Enormous thanks to every one of our 53,000 donors who chose to be part of this unparalleled expression of collective responsibility. We are also extremely grateful that the number of donors to our campaign is growing — as our goal is to represent and serve the whole community.

Thanks, too, to our dedicated volunteer leaders who live and breathe UJA-Federation, telling our story, and championing our cause; and to our beneficiary agencies who rose to meet new challenges this year while maintaining the standard of care that so many have come to depend on. And, finally, I must acknowledge UJA-Federation’s staff for their extraordinary dedication and unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Summer’s here, a time for all of us to reflect and plan for the future. And given the Iranian nuclear deal, growing anti-Semitism and BDS, just to name a critical few issues, there is so much at stake and a great many challenges that require our community’s attention.

But for just this moment, let’s pause and appreciate all we’ve accomplished and — most significantly — what it means to all those who count on us in crisis and every day.

On their behalf and from all of us — our deepest thanks.

Shabbat shalom
